P> the boss is shown here to be very wary and nervous
about the men.
E> when he says ‘all right. But don’t try to put nothing over’
the reader can see this.
E> He is saying he doesn’t trust them as Lennie cannot
even answer for himself & also George and Lennie travelled around together.
In these days it was rare as most people worked & travelled alone because
jobs were hard to find. This shows why he doesn’t trust them and he is watching
them closely.
P> we also learn that the boss is unsure, even though he
has gave them the job.
E> we see this when the text describes him ‘he turned and
looked for a long moment’
E> the use of ‘long’ tells the reader that he is pausing
for a while to try and figure out the men, he is clearly not convinced that
people would travel together, and be friends with one and other, the theme of
friendship is shown here and the writers is saying the boss is maybe jealous
about other having friendships.
